I know his son, who's name I will not mention, and he(Jack Tretton) was working late trying to bring the PSN (Play Station Network) back online after having it shut down.

I'm glad you like it! I do all that I can. I try to shoot for updating this blog 4 times per week, usually Monday-Thursday. Once in awhile it will get pushed back a day, but never as far as the weekend. :) Hope that helps!

Yeah, it does seem like there are more and more hackers out there. I suppose that is to come with technology's growth. However, it's the black-hat hackers that are the real problems. We've been using "good" hackers for quite some time to improve securities. It's hard to know when you're safe and functioning on the web these days. My best advice would be if you're doing something important, make sure the address bar is secure (https:// instead of http://) and perhaps even try to use a VPN (Virtual Private Network).

LulzSec considers themselves to be helping improve security and stop corruption, but my opinion is they're going a little overboard. I like Anonymous, I'll admit that. I know they seem a bit powerful, but I suppose they are. They also get blamed for a lot that they don't do. On the other side, I just think LulzSec is coming off a bit strong. :)

Great comment!

Hackers are getting into everything these days, now even Lady Gaga's site's been compromised :-( It's like you can't function on the web without giving your details but as soon as you've given them potentially you've made them available to thieves who will steal your last virtual penny.

Very strong opinion, and I absolutely love it. It is true that Sony's security was not good enough to withstand DDoS attacks, the rebug technique, and the actual hack implemented by this outside source. You are also correct in stating that Anonymous are ethical hackers. They believe in privacy and internet freedom, so taking down the PSN would be completely opposite to their beliefs.

Anonymous took down playstation.com and sony.com prior to this incident, in which Sony took down the PSN for a few hours because their website was down. That was the only thing Anonymous did in regards to the PSN. This latest hack, however, was an outside source that took them only to exploit one of the many flaws within the PSN security. Sony's PSN security should have been a lot stronger, but I do blame these outside black-hat hackers for doing something wrong. In their attempt to go after Sony, they took down the customers as well, something Anonymous would never make the mistake of.

Very good discussion and comment. :)

So now I see Sony are trying to suggest that somehow the invincible superhackers known as Anonymous are involved in hacking the Playstation and getting all those credit card details. I think that's bull. From the little I know, Anonymous are ethical hackers, not thieves. Sony's security wasn't good enough, that's all there is to it. They're trying to make it look like since Anonymous were involved, no encryption in the world would have stopped them, that Anonymous are invincible and so Sony exercised due diligence in setting up their encryption. That won't wash, Sony. We see through you!
