Adobe announced today that plans are still on track to release Flash 10.1 for smart phones later this year.  Flash is used to play videos and games on Blackberries, Androids and other smart phones.  Unfortunately, Apple’s iPad and iPhone will not be on the list of compatible gadgets. So if you’re looking to get spruced up videos or play the latest games on your mobile device, Flash 10.1 will be out later this year.

Well, it’s January 27 and Apple is set to announce their next biggest thing. Specualtion is going wild. Some people think it’s most likely a tablet computer, others think it might be a new version of the iPhone or a major addition to iTunes. Keep your ears to the ground with me and let’s see what Apple announces.

Ion Technologies unveiled its new iPhone accessory at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show.  The iType allows you to type on your iphone using a regular sized keyboard.  I don’t know about the portability factor just yet, but having an iPhone and knowing how hard it is to type on at times, this might be something worth looking at.

This is a cautionary tale that happened to my wife.  I have to pass this along so everyone can be prepared. 

My wife was coming home from work one day when she saw a car in the ditch along side the road. She pulled off and found an older lady that had spun her car and skidded into the ditch. The older lady did have a cell phone and had called someone in her family, but unfortunately, that person didn’t answer the call. My wife decided that the next step was to call the police, but she knew that this was not an emergency, so calling 911 was not the right number.  The non-emergency numebr was not in my wife’s phone nor did she know it from memory. My wife actually called me to ask for the number, but I didn’t have it stored in my phone either.  I had to look the number up in the phone book and give it to her. Despite those minor setbacks, the story does have a happy ending. The local police sent someone out, and the older lady’s relative arrived and to get her out of the ditch.

So, what’s the moral of the story? Find your local police department’s non-emergency number and store it in your cell phone as a new contact. Rest assured that both my wife and I now have that number stored in our cell phones. Cause we just never know when we’ll need it.

Now, the story didn’t put numbers next to the gadgets, so I listed them in the order they were listed in the story and added the numbers myself.  And if there is one gadget that revolutionized our lives, it has to be the iPod.  Think about this for a second, before the iPod, we had to carry a portable CD player and a case of CDs.  Now, depending on how much you liked music determined how many CDs you took with you.  With the iPod, you could very well take your entire album collection wherever you went.  And I have close to 200 CDs, so I was stoked by the idea of not having to worry about bringing certain CDs.  What a great decade!

Nasa has launched an iPhone application that rivals anything 007 ever had! It can sniff chemicals! You have to read this to believe it. Chemical warfare is a serious threat and the fact that homeland security can have a simple device attachment that can help prevent mass destruction is pretty cool!

Nintendo is going on record blaming the iPhone for its slumping sales of the DS! Now to me, if I were Nintendo I would blame slumping sales on over played franchises, poor graphics and overall lack of attention to detail. I would not blame it on a glorified mobile phone that can barely keep up with the gameboy of yesterday! Folks, this is a sad day for Mario!

it’s time to make the change from Blackberry to the new iPhone. I’ve been a long time BB user (last 5 years or so) and I’ve never come across anything that I thought might be better but BB is really dropping the ball with the 3G network and With all of the new applications on the iPhone 3Gs it’s just about time for me to make the jump! I just wish it wasn’t locked to AT&T!

Well, I’m still on my quest for components for my project. While searching I came across a site called DIYcomponents and they seem to have quite a bit for us old time computer people who like to make their own boxes! I think I’ll check them out and post any updates, good or bad!

Word has it, Apple was in discussions with Google before the launch of the G1 late last year. With underground news swirling around about the launch of the G2 it seems like old news but from what I’ve heard. The G2 will have many of the features Apple asked Google to omit from the HTC G1. I’ve been hearing news about a full touch screen that will give the G2 a clone like feel to the iPhone. If the G1 was the market test device then the G2 is surely what Apple has been worrying about.
