Sony Hacked Again

This one isn’t going to run very long, as there isn’t too much to say and I feel like as much fun I’m having laughing at Sony, any audience is going to get bored hearing about the tragic attempts of Sony to get back on their feet.

Basically, they were hacked again. Though, this time it wasn’t the Playstation Network (PSN). This time, it was Sony Online Entertainment, the pay-per-month games. They aren’t the developers of World of Warcraft, but it’s that type of idea: a game that is massively played that you pay to play with others. Sony Online Entertainment developed DC Universe Online.

Sony Online Entertainment released a short statement about the ongoing issue. It reads as follows:

Our ongoing investigation of illegal intrusions into Sony Online Entertainment systems has discovered that hackers may have obtained personal customer information from SOE systems. We are today advising you that the personal information you provided us in connection with your SOE account may have been stolen in a cyber-attack. Stolen information includes, to the extent you provided it to us, the following: name, address (city, state, zip, country), email address, gender, birthdate, phone number, login name and hashed password.

Oh, and credit card information dating back as far as 2007 has been stolen as well. That being said, even if you did your gaming years ago, it could still have gotten stolen if your credit card hasn’t expired since then. Sony explains, “…12,700 non-US customer credit or debit card numbers and expiration dates (but not credit card security codes) and about 10,700 direct debit records listing bank account numbers of certain customers in Germany, Austria, Netherlands and Spain may have also been obtained—we will be notifying each of those customers promptly.”

Surely this is a similar story. Let me distract your mind. A “recognized” security firm has been brought in to strengthen their security. PSN. The services have been taking offline. PSN. Various and vast amounts of data has been accessed and “stolen.” PSN. Will be down for an undetermined amount of time. PSN. Will more than likely be compensated for the downtime. PSN.
