PSN Update: Credit Cards

While Sony hasn’t released much about their recent downtime due to “a malicious intrusion.” In fact, the only thing they have really told anyone is that it is more than likely hackers. Well, they have finally released something else.

Satoshi Fukuoka, a spokesman for Sony Computer Entertainment in Tokyo, spoke with PCWorld and claimed the company “has not yet determined if the personal information or credit card numbers of users have been compromised, but that Sony would promptly inform users if it found that was the case.”

Sony’s Patrick Seybold has put up another update to let everyone know that Sony doesn’t have much of a clue about when this mess will get fixed. Thanks for absolutely nothing, Pat. “Unfortunately, I don’t have an update or timeframe to share at this point in time,” he stated. ”As we previously noted, this is a time intensive process and we’re working to get them back online quickly. Will keep you updated with information as it becomes available. We once again thank you for your patience.” I love the integrity Sony tries to hold after everything they have been through. It’s really admirable, not. It’s actually quite annoying.

I suppose it would be my advice for you to remove or disable any credit card information that you can for the time being. As well, I would check their current balances and make sure nothing has been done.

I hate to blame any users, but sadly, I must in a way. You must understand that a free service can only have so much security. They aren’t going to dump extreme amounts of cash into protecting something that is there for free. With that being said, it’s my recommendation that if you can afford it, switching over to Xbox Live. I am not affiliated with Microsoft in any way, and even like Apple better, but Xbox Live is more secure and stable than PSN. Don’t believe me? When’s the last time Xbox Live was down for over 5 days?
