Steve Jobs is back! I have read others reporting that he sounded weaker, but he really doesn’t. He sounds completely normal and healthy, so I am disappointed with the people trying to attain attention from portraying him differently.
That aside, it’s time to talk about the invite-only event that took place in San Francisco.
Jobs let some statistics out to the public before releasing anything too hot. Ever wonder how many iPad’s were sold? From April (the release) to December of 2010, 15 million iPad’s were sold. That’s more than any other tablet PC ever sold.
Just to shatter all of the rumors that were previously set forth, I will let everyone know that the iPad 2 was indeed released. I have compiled a list of bullet points that Apple fanatics, as well as people that are simply curious, will find interesting:
- The iPad 2 starts pricing at $499 for the 16GB device.
- It’s 33% thinner than the previous generation.
- Looking for a comparison? The iPad 2 is thinner than the iPhone 4.
- Front and back cameras.
- With all these new features, the battery life is still 10 hours.
- HDMI Out accessory available for $39. Anything that can be viewed on the iPad 2 can be directly viewed on the HDTV, including all 65,000 apps.
- Most people didn’t believe this, but it does have a 30-pin dock connector port.
- 3.5mm headphone jack
- Faster processor using a brand-new A5 dual-core processor.
- Steve Jobs stated that this was twice as fast as the original iPad’s processor.
- White and black
- Smart Covers – No more bulky cases. Simple covers that magnetize to the device and auto-align.
- Fun note: iPad 2 will auto-sleep/wake when the cover is opened/closed.
- Fun, built-in apps
- Check out the full list here.
- Multi-Touch Technology
- Instant On
- The iOS4 supports encrypted network communication
All of these features make this device stand out. This is why the iPad is of a higher value and sells significantly more than its competitors. With a device as powerful and unique as this, the expected sell date must be quite awhile, right? Definitely not. Apple has said that the iPad 2 will go on sale on March 11th. Deliveries are expected to be quick, between 1-7 business days, depending on availability.
I’m seriously considering purchasing the iPad 2 on March 11th.
