Who’s your satellite internet provider?

So, giving further thought to the satellite internet question, I’m curious, do any of you guys have a satellite internet provider you would recommend to friends or family? I always like going with what people have used and are happy with, because it means that in the long run, I’m probably going to have a better experience. Yeah, price is important, but people’s recommendations come first.

Anyone using high speed satellite internet?

I’ve been thinking about my Internet connection and can’t help but wonder if there’s a better way. I have a mate who uses high speed satellite internet and he just wouldn’t stop talking about it. Apparently he gets really high download speed and it’s the best way to watch movies and download new distros for his Linux box. Dunno, not a decision to be taken lightly, but something worth thinking about.

How can your home give back?

I’ve been hearing more and more lately about homes so energy efficient that they actually give power back to the grid. I think this is really the wave o the future because so much energy is just bled off into the ground that thousands of homes could be run for free. Now that solar and wind energy is starting to get into high gear it’s cool to see that the technology can give to those who cannot afford to be more efficient.

Dude your phone gives me a woody!

No seriously, NTT Docomo has unveiled their scrap wood mobile phone concept! This really gets me where my heart should be because I’m a wood worker at heart and I think that this is a great concept. How many phones end up in the trash after 6 months? Take it from a guy who has worked in the industry, it’s a lot. So, at least some of the phone will biodegrade. I thought it was great that T-Mobile started going with a minimal packaging idea so I wonder if any major manufacturer or carrier will pick up on this idea.

Tio-Teaching our children well!

This is awesome if you ask me! Tio is a light switch that glows green when your child is practicing efficient energy use in their room but it glows red when it becomes angry when they don’t practice good energy use. I think Lou Ferrigno would think it should be the other way around. You won’t like it when I get angry!

On a side note, doesn’t it seem like a waste of energy to have a huge light switch lit up to display if it’s happy or not?  Just a thought!

275 MPG and 0-60 in 5 seconds

eVaro has my vote for the most kick ass car in the world! 275 MPG is just ridiculous but 0-60 in 5 seconds is very strong in deed! Unfortunately due to the still bloated automobile industry in the US it’s highly unlikely that we’ll be able to get our grubby hands on this car any time soon! If GM could get on the ball with one of these they wouldn’t be worried about bankruptcy any more!

Science that really helps to save innocent lives

Often science is attributed to meaningless advancements that amount to a bunch of bloviating by those who care simply because it’s their job to care. Far too often simple advances that could truly save lives never get developed because the money (or profit) isn’t really there.
However, it’s easy to see where simple glowing bacteria can save 20,000 lives each year. They are still recovering land mines from the Korean War and innocent people die every day due to them. It’s great to see that scientist somewhere are interested in saving lives and not about becoming rich off of the next drug!

Have you been looking to upgrade your computer protection?

Recently the company I work for was interested in shopping around for a new security provider for our computer systems. One of our techs suggested we look at the computer protection that AlertSec can provide. So our supervisor asked me to look a little further into them.
I have to say the high level of quality products they can provide pleasantly surprised me.  I was most impressed with the full disc encryption service they call Xpress. When I hard they offer 24-hour helpdesk I made the suggestion to my manager that we give them a try.  We’ve seen a decrease in downtime and in bottom line costs.
