Ugh, who thought this one up?

The Washington post has an article up regarding the fact that the Homeland security is about to build a center for the study of infectious diseases in Kansas. This doesn’t sound odd until you think about the high rate of tornadoes that fly through that state on a regular basis. So, cultivating air borne pathogens might not be the best idea to prevent wide out breaks of disease! Unfortunately, the government is using outdated material to validate the move. I think It’s been a while since I watched, “the Stand.”

Poker on twitter

I came across this article the other day on how poker is changing due to Twitter. I’ve been wondering how tools like this could help you get a leg up on the house. I mean, with all of this technology could there be an organic way to get a leg up? I’m not sure I’d have the guts to try it but I’m sure there are people out there looking to exploit these interfaces to get an advantage at the table!

A gift that makes you think

I ordered a gift for my nephew this week that I thought was a great gift idea that didn’t involve A guitar controller or a mobile phone. It’s the Young Mad scientist alphabet blocks. I thought this would be a great gift for learning that could inspire a new generation of geek! I’m not so sure my sister will like it but hey, I didn’t like the tie with a keyboard on it that I got for my birthday last year!

Ouch Google!

Wow, just when you thought Google was going to be the new supreme ruler of the world you find out that it’s actually going to be the universe! With Andriod being so big, Google has now released software for their device and for the Blackberry that allows users to do more then I could even fathom right now. Just check out this link to see more on this. It’s crazy!

Things are getting dirty

Apple has recently put the kibosh on The Pal Pre’s desire to be able to sync iTunes on their devices. Now there are always work around but it’s interesting that Apple would rather block the usage of iTunes syncing and forgo the revenue that would be generated from allowing it. I would think that they would get more revenue from this since many other devices allow the syncing of iTunes and no one is going to buy the iPhone simply due to it’s ability to sync Apple encoded songs.

Pandora sides with the record companies!

That’s right, internet streaming and downloading giant has sided with the record company. They want radio stations to pay a larger royalty for broadcasting songs over the airwaves. Obviously this will help them since internet streaming is the largest growing industry on the internet and public broadcast of music cuts into their market share. This would bean obvious win win for Pandora!

Half life

I wrote about the new Star Trec movie that’s slated to come out soon the other day. On my search for cool movies I came across Half life. This is a great online movie that is being updated on a regular basis. It’s a bit complicated but the overall concept is not too hard to follow. Hey, what do you want for free! Just bookmark the site and get ready for a wait! It should only take a half life to get through it!

Star Trek 12

Another Kahn movie. If you were a fan of the big screen action adventure of the last Star Tec movie I’m sure you won’t be disappointed by this upcoming movie that is supposed to be a prequel of the great Kahn. Now we all know how the first movie went but this seems like a last ditch effort to relive the glory days of the original cast. They should be focusing more on Deep Space 9 like they did when they transitioned to the Next Generation.

Microsoft opens Hohm to energy monitoring

Microsoft is actually doing something good for a change! They’ve decided to help people get a handle on going green (or greener at least) with their homes. I know I’ve been working on this over the last few years and the choices are mind boggling to say the least. As soon as you think you’re doing the right thing something pops up and makes you change your mind. All in all I’ve done very little because it’s all been so confusing. So, let’s hope Microsoft can shed a little light on going green.
