From the most important to the most memorable

Let’s offer a continuation of my previous post. From the most important to the most memorable of Geek products you’ll go from the necessary products that evolved the IT generation to the products that kept us company on those dateless nights. I remember my first pet rock! I even remember the critter box it came in! What was your favorite geek toy growing up? This should be interesting!

Top 100 list of IT products of the century

I happened to come across this site on my journey through the inter-web this week and thought i would share it with everyone. It’s a list of the top 100 IT products of the century. I’m not sold on the list in it’s entirety but it’s an interesting read and would be sure to cause debate in any IT office. Let me know what you think! I think the Atari 2600 game machine should be number one. Pong is still the best game ever!

Science of Watchmen

So I’m sure most people have flocked to see the Watchmen. I came across a video explaining the science behind the Watchmen. It’s an interesting insight into the world of super hero science. I’m not so sure it adds to the movie but hey, why not tear apart the viability of super powers ??? Anyway, how is everyone liking the movie?

When he’s right, he’s right!

The top Geek movies of 2009! Let’s face it. Most of us IT professionals have tastes that run a bit on the geeky side. So, these movies just might be the ones that make your 2009 a great year. Some of the ones that stand out to me are the Watchmen and X-men Origins. Both of these are comic book based and will be sure fire winners in the world of geek! Check out this guy’s blog. He was right last year and the list he has put together this year looks to be a winner.

The Beatles are coming to Rockband

Yes, it’s the second coming of the Beatles. In the early 60′s it was called the British invasion but in 2009 it will be the digital British invasion. The Beatles join the long list of bands jumping on board with Guitar hero and Rock Band video games to bring their music to a generation that might otherwise never know they existed. For a gamer it’s always cool to see some new music but what I’m really looking for is a redesign of the game to step up the challenge. Just adding new bands fails to make it all that interesting for me.

How many bugs does your Firefox have?

I’ve been having serious Firefox issues as of late. When I go to sites it doesn’t load the script, just the test. Pictures don’t show correctly and everything is misplaced. So, when I heard Firefox had several critical fixes I downloaded the new software and I must say. I’ve been using it for about two weeks now and it’s been very stable. I’m quite happy with it so far and the best part is, I don’t have to use IE or Safari any more! So, if you are a Firefox user and you’ve been having problems it’s time to get the new software!

Steve Jobs still in question

With the health of Steve Jobs seemingly getting worse it’s obvious that Apple is going to have to look to other leaders in the company for a little support and leadership. It’s been Said that Steve jobs has been the sole reason for Apple’s success over the years so obvious being a new leader in that company is going to be gigantic task for anyone. TIS has a great article up on the 5 people it will take to lead Apple while Mr. Jobs tends to his health needs. I could only hope that someday someone says it will take five people to fill my shoes.

Hi, my name is…

For three days I’ll be representing my IT department at a job fair being held by the city counsel. I’ll be the host with the most chilling in the awesome custom exhibit design our creative department dreamed up. I won’t go into detail because our company has a strict policy about blogging about work but it’s really futuristic and I’ll be pretending I’m on the deck of the USS Enterprise for three days! it should a lot more fun than re imaging machines all day.

Tech stocks

I’ve noticed something over the last few months. With the stock market plunging to the depths of Davy Jones everyone has been affected. Now tech stocks have taken a hit but realistically they still seem to be out performing the rest of the stock market. I’m not a huge investor in the stock market but as an IT professional it’s encouraging that there still seems to be a stable market for nes technology and research and development is still going strong. I keep track of how the market is doing on CNN Money and so far it looks like those who invest heavily in the tech markets are not seeing quite the hit as other sectors.

A litle less spam on facebook!

Last week a judge ordered a Facebook user to stay away from the FaceBook site due to the fact that he was a well known spammer. Anyone who uses the social website knows that spammers are relentless and I for one give a giant shout out the the judge that handed down this verdict. Spammers have their place on the web but it seems like there are more people working on spamming and scamming then there are people trying to socialise. Hopefully we will see the owners of these sites being more proactive in bringing charges against spammers to help clean up the site in efforts to provide a user friendly experence for legitimate users.
